Media Relations Coordinator

The Cato Institute is seeking applications for a full-time position located in DC as a Media Outreach Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Responding to incoming inquiries to the Communications Department, ensuring that all requests from journalists are promptly and correctly addressed.
  • Scanning news summaries daily to determine what updates need to be made to media contact lists, then making appropriate list changes.
  • Assisting the Director of Media Relations with development and distribution of daily promotional products, such as press releases and media availabilities, to the news media.
  • Compiling and distributing reports of Cato citations in the print and online media.
  • Overseeing a group of 2-3 interns each semester; duties include supervising their daily work output, giving feedback on performance, and providing mentorship.
  • Manage the Cato Press Twitter account.

Requirements:

  • 1 – 2 years work experience at a broadcast media outlet, or non-profit, government, corporate, or association marketing or public relations office.
  • Basic understanding of how the U.S news media operates
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and maintain a professional demeanor 
  • 4-year university degree in the political, communications or marketing areas of study.
