Assistant Producer

The Cato Institute is seeking applications for a full-time position located in DC as an Assistant Producer for Libertarianism.org. The Assistant Producer will assist the Senior Producer and site Editor in creating and promoting multimedia content for Libertarianism.org, help develop the visual style of the site’s video content, and research and pitch new ideas for video content. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with the latest filmmaking and studio production equipment and techniques, and will also be a self-starter and a highly productive member of the Libertarianism.org team. This is an entry level position.

Libertarianism.org is the Cato Institute’s treasury of resources about the theory and history of liberty. We offer a wealth of original essays and classic reprints by great classical liberals and libertarians as well as articles from modern-day thinkers, book reviews, four podcasts, a libertarian encyclopedia, videos, online introductory courses, and books on a variety of topics within the libertarian tradition.

Responsibilities:

  • Lighting, sound production, and audio/video recording for Libertarianism.org videos.
  • Pitching, writing, producing, and shooting short videos and/or mini-documentaries.
  • Post-production, including multi-camera editing, motion graphics and and color correction.
  • Preparation and formatting of Libertarianism.org videos on Youtube, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Collaborating with the Libertarianism.org Senior Producer on the creative direction and production of Libertarianism.org’s multimedia content.

Requirements:

  • Fluency with non-linear video and audio editing software.
  • Ability to work with multiple broadcast-quality video cameras (specifically, Sony NEX-FS100, NEX FS700, and DSLR cameras) and other professional filmmaking equipment.
  • Must demonstrate the capability to meet deadlines and work well on a small team. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter.
  • Experience in television, documentary video, and/or professional audio production is a plus.
